Tofino and Roy Henry Vickers
I finally got a day off work!!!

On Friday morning my honey and I left for Ucluelet/Tofino bright and early. I have to say it’s one of my favorite spots in the world, and I don’t think I could ever tire of going there. We went into the Eagle Aerie Gallery in Tofino (yeah, we always do) and were lucky enough to be there just in time to meet Roy, and sit and listen to storytelling, drumming and singing. It was incredibly moving, and it was all I could do not to burst into tears at several points in Roy’s story. He is honest in his words, and holds nothing back; looking around the longhouse, everyone seemed transfixed by what he was saying. It was awesome, and I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance to hear him speak.

One part of his story keeps running through my head....the origin of the word inspiration. It comes from the latin word "inspiritu" (I probably spelled that wrong) but it means "breath of God". I am not a religious person as such, my church is in the garden, or the woods, or walking by the ocean and feeling the wind on my cheeks, but what a wonderful thing to know and remember. That to be inspired is a gift from the creator, whoever that may be to you. And what a gift it is.

Another thing he said was to remember that the gift is there. When life gets in the way, or the kids are crying or there are bills to be paid and you can’t get things done fast enough, remember that the gift hasn’t left you. It may be on the back burner for a time, but when you are quiet and ready to listen again, it will be there, ready to be picked up and examined fresh again.

So my wish for you is to stay inspired, stay open to ideas and creativity, and always be awed and thankful for your inspiration, your "breath of God".

Peace
